Seven Lakes Spartan Band
Rhodes Rumble (Formerly known as Battle at the Lakes) is the premier clinic and contest in the Greater Houston Area. Founded in the Fall of 2018, BATL has provided percussion programs of all sizes and skill levels the opportunity to work with some of the best and experienced educators in the activity. Competing ensembles are provided a 30 minute slot of time to perform their show for our 4 clinicians. Following their performance, groups will be given a 15-20 minute clinic where our 4 clinicians will work directly with the students and directors. In addition to the clinic, every group will receive feedback through our competition suite software, a recording of their performance, and a full ensemble picture following the conclusion of the clinic!

Any size ensemble that is not quite ready for competition, but wants the educational positives of an early clinic.
Advanced Small
A max ensemble size of 29 students that is ready to be competitive with other programs.

Any size ensemble (or any competitive ensemble over 29 students) that is ready to be competitive with other programs.

Colin McNutt has instructed and arranged for the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps and the popular stage production Blast! He has also written for and instructed the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Magic of Orlando, and the Madison Scouts. Colin has served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he is an alumnus and received degrees in Classics and Music Education. He was the Percussion Caption Supervisor and then Caption Head for the nine-time DCI World Champion Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps.
Currently, he is the Caption Head for the Boston Crusaders.
He hasn’t only instructed, as McNutt started marching drum corps his junior year in high school in 1988 with the Boston Crusaders of Boston, Mass, then aging out with the Santa Clara Vanguard of Santa Clara, California, in 1992.
McNutt has made a career out of his passion for music and percussion, while in between completing his double major of music education and classics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1998. When not instructing drum corps, McNutt conducts clinics for the percussion companies Pearl Corporation, Avedis Zildjian Co., REMO, Inc., and Vic Firth. He also writes music for marching bands in the United States, Canada, Thailand & Japan.
Iain is the Director of Athletic Bands and Music Programs Recruiter at Widener University. As Director of Athletic Bands, he oversees all aspects of the Widener University Marching and Pep Band, which performs at home football and basketball games, along with other university events. In his role as a Music Programs Recruiter, he is responsible for recruiting high school students with a music background into Widener’s academic majors and placing them in one of the many Widener music ensembles.
Iain also serves as the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps’ Front Ensemble Arranger. Prior to joining the Boston Crusaders, Iain served on the percussion staff of The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, where he served as Front Ensemble Arranger from 2009-2016. During his time with The Cadets, the corps won its 10th DCI World Championship in 2011, and the percussion section received the Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion Performance in 2013.
Mr. Roach found his passion for the marching activity while attending Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, IL. Joe went on to perform with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and study at the University of Iowa. Upon returning to the Chicago land area, Joe became a freelance percussion instructor, focusing on the marching activity. Joe has worked with several top tier programs in the area including Lake Park H.S. (Roselle, IL), Prospect H.S. (Mt. Prospect, IL), Batavia H.S. (Batavia, IL) and many more. In addition to teaching Joe has arranged for several groups in the area most notably Lake Park H.S. (BOA Semi-Finalist). While in Chicago Joe rejoined The Cavaliers organization in 2007 helping to create Green Thunder Percussion/ Cavaliers Indoor Percussion. Joe eventually took over as director of the ensemble in 2013. The ensemble grew from an A Class WGI competing group to a two time World Class finalist during it’s 11 year run. Joe also joined the percussion education staff of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011 and became the corps director in 2017. Mr. Roach is currently the Executive Director for Music City Youth in the Arts in Nashville, TN. This performing arts non-profit organization focuses on local music education with it’s premier ensemble, Music City Drum Corps. Joe continues to judge and consult with various high schools and independent organizations
