The Competition Band is the top marching ensemble at Seven Lakes High School. Membership is open to students in all four grades. Students are chosen for the competition band based upon marching and music evaluations beginning in the spring of the previous year, continuing through the first part of July/August camp.
The Spartan Band is comprised of all students in the SLHS band who are not a member of the competition band. The Spartan Spirit Band does perform at every football halftime throughout the year. Our intent is to provide all students the appropriate educational opportunity to succeed and ensure that everyone can participate.
An indoor percussion ensemble or indoor drumline consists of the marching percussion (also called battery) and front ensemble (also called pit) sections of a marching band or drum corps. Indoor percussion marries elements of music performance, marching, and theater; thus, the activity is often referred to as percussion theater. Although most indoor percussion ensembles are affiliated with high schools, there are also many independent groups that draw participants from a large area.
Percussion Ensemble is a class that meets as a drumline and front ensemble during the fall semester, and percussion ensembles are based on band placements in the spring semester. The percussion ensembles work together toward competitive festivals with the band and as separate ensembles. The percussion studio will compete in festivals, solo and ensemble, and indoor circuits throughout the school year.
The Seven Lakes Color Guard is integral to the Spartan Marching Band. We kick off our season in July, and rehearsals run through the beginning of November culminating in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Area/State Marching Contest and/or the Bands of America (BOA) San Antonio Super Regional. The Color Guard performs with the Seven Lakes Marching Band at all football games and competitive marching contests throughout the fall.
In November, our focus turns to our Winter Guard program. Winter Guard focuses on performing indoors and competing against other color guard teams. Winter Guards are found in high schools, middle schools, universities, and independent organizations.
We create a new show for the Winter season and compete in two winter guard circuits, similar to marching band: the local Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) and the international Winter Guard International (WGI) circuit.
Performing in the Winter Guard is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your skills and compete with some of the best color guard teams. You will get to be a part of a tight-knit group of performers who are passionate about what they do!
